21 Henley Street, Stratford Upon Avon
Even during the day 21 Henley Street, also known as The Creaky Cauldron, looks the perfect place for a paranormal investigation with its witchcraft and wizardry exhibits. But as darkness falls the building becomes even more sinister. The history of the both the building and the land up on which it stands is extremely surprising and much of it still awaits discovery. A challenge for even the most hardy investigators!
History
It is believed that there has been a building on the site of 21 Henley Street since the early 1100's although the current building dates to around the 16th Century. In 1604 it is known that the building formed part of the White Lion Inn, the largest coaching inn in Europe which took up almost a whole block. The Inn would have seen all of the usual comings and goings of a coaching establishment, but was known to have connections with several secret societies, and even royalty.
During the civil war the Inn became a Parliamentarian stronghold and saw troops being billeted there both before and after the Battle of Edgehill. In 1747 the building passed in to the hands of John Payton who, in 1762, married his second wife, Anne, the widow of William Shakespeare.
In 1818 the son of John Payton (also called John Payton) died and the Inn was sold to Thomas Arkell, who, in 1836, sold the property on to Thomas Warden. in 1842, during Thomas Warden's ownership of the property, he received a message advising that in less than two hours the Dowagers Queen Adelaide and her party would be visiting.
Since then the property has been used as both a private residence and business premises of various types. It is now a Witchcraft and Wizardy Museum.

A wealth of paranormal activity has been reported at the Creaky Cauldron including:
* batteries draining for no reason;
* the ghost of an elderly gentleman has been seen roaming the property;
* people have been so strongly effected by a dark presence they have been forced to leave the building;
* the sense of being watched, particularly around the priest hole.
